I would like to learn American Sign language for the next month. The reason that I would like to learn ASL is because when I was younger I had a friend who found it difficult to communicate in any other way. She and I would try to talk but because I didn’t understand ASL it was very difficult. I would like to have full conversations with her and that is why I need to learn. I love learning new things and this is one that can help me in the future.
So that I can learn ASL I will start off by researching the history of how it came to be. Then I will go off to learning the basics such as the alphabet. Once I have mastered the alphabet I will learn how to build words. This will lead to to me building sentences and i will be able to say “Hello my name is Tiffany Ramirez.” I will make sure that I am not messing up this beautiful language by having others who are fluent in it correct me.
After I have mastered ASL I will be able to have full conversations with my childhood friend. I will also have an advantage over many people when it comes to getting job. I might even decide that I want to further my knowledge on ASL and study it more in college. I hope that by the end I will be able to have full conversations and be able to have a better understanding of the language. I also believe that it will be a fun experience.
